Sharpsteen, who moved to Brevard in 2010, has become known as the blogger of the “I Love Brevard” blog, host of the “I Love Brevard” radio show, and has been featured in WNC magazine for her love of the area. Prior to her move to North Carolina, she worked as a TV writer/producer and journalist for nearly twenty years, producing television shows, documentaries, music videos (mostly country music), and feature stories for various TV networks and newspapers. For a period of three years, Sharpsteen was the national “Head Mom” figurehead for E.W. Scripps Company, where she was also Editor-in-Chief of two Scripps family magazines. She routinely wrote lifestyle features for Scripps Howard News Service, where her work appeared regularly in the Chicago Sun Times, the Seattle Times, and more. Her background has included work with various celebrities and political figures, including Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Donald Trump, and others. While her life today is decidedly less “celebrity-driven,” Sharpsteen explains her decision to move to Brevard and the mountains of western North Carolina was the result of a high profile celebrity project she worked on involving Johnny Cash. In 2007, she co-authored the book, “I Walked the Line: My Life with Johnny,” the autobiography of Cash’s first wife, Vivian Cash, published by Scribner/Simon & Schuster. The project would prove life-changing for the former TV producer. “Getting to know Johnny and Vivian - and their story - affected me deeply,” she explains. “Vivian wanted me to learn from their family experience, always put family first, and consider my job as “mom” the most important job I will ever have. She encouraged me to make decisions based on what was best for my son. So, I listened and moved to Brevard.” It’s one of the best decisions Sharpsteen says she ever made. “Today, I love helping others call Brevard home, and helping buyers find their dream home here.”
